Are there shaded seats at Target Field?

Shade at any open-air ballpark changes as the sun moves. A section that begins a game in direct sun may become shaded later, while overhangs and upper decks can block direct sun for only part of a row or section.

That is why ShadeSeats asks for the date, local start time, and expected duration. Target Field results will be published as buying guidance only after the venue model is checked against real, timestamped observations.

How the Target Field shade forecast will work

Place the stadium in 3D

Orient the seating bowl and shade-producing structures to true north using a local coordinate model.

Follow the sun

Calculate solar direction at one-minute intervals for the selected date, local start time, and game length.

Test each location

Check whether a deck, canopy, scoreboard, or other modeled structure blocks direct sun from the seat or section.

Validate and label

Compare predictions with real observations, then publish shaded minutes, transitions, and a confidence level.

Solar direction is calculated with the NREL Solar Position Algorithm. The NREL SPA software is provided as-is under its published notice. Astronomical accuracy does not make the current procedural stadium geometry exact.

Which Target Field seats are in the shade?

The answer changes with the game date, first-pitch time, duration, seat position, and stadium structures. The current ShadeSeats map is an interactive preview and is not yet validated for ticket decisions.

Does the prediction account for the whole game?

Yes. The planned model samples shade throughout the selected game window rather than checking only the starting conditions.

Is cloud cover included?

No. ShadeSeats models geometric shade from stadium structures. Clouds, temperature, and UV conditions are separate from whether a seat has a direct line of sight to the sun.

Are exact rows and seats available yet?

ShadeSeats includes an original 3D Target Field replica with the official visible section system and individual seat markers. The marker coordinates are modeled, not a licensed or surveyed seat manifest, so they are not yet exact ticket locations.
